Matthew at Creative Minority Report recently posted on the reactions his family draws from others. It is definitely worth the read.
I've been on the receiving end of a few comments, too. It isn't always easy to smile and be polite, but it is worth the effort when it turns out the person asking "Are they all yours?" wants advice and helpful words about their desire to have more children than is considered acceptable or normal.

I always try to be cheerful when someone has commented on my "large" family, even if they are clearly horrified. You never know. It may be the only time they get a glimpse of the reality of the sanctity of life and blessings of children.
You know, I only have three boys. But I still get the look. Every single person that hears I have three boys who are 7, 5 and 3 says, and I quote, "You must have your hands full."
Yep. And I love every single minute.
Rosemary, I don't know you in real life, but I can tell from your blog that you are blessed with wonderful children.
Dana, I do know you and your boys and I think they are great! I've known people with only one child who have had their hands full so I guess I can understand why people expect families that don't fit the norm -- what is it now, 1.7 children? -- to be so much harder to manage and raise.
